Weedy Seadragon
(Phyllopteryx taeniolatus)
Common sea dragon is a marine relative of seahorses and pipefish. They have leaf-like appendages that help them blend in with the weedy habitat they indwell. Though these appendages might appear like fins to you, they are used for camouflage only, not swimming. Their actual fins are transparent and often hard to spot without looking carefully. Unlike sea horses, they do not have a prehensile tail that enables them to grasp onto vegetations or substrates, so they often drift in the water column and resembles swaying seaweed.
